To say that those who pretend to govern here in Tennessee are inept in their ability to lead would be very much an understatement, especially when it comes to the Governor’s office.
We are still in a perpetual state of emergency here in Tennessee being led by executive orders with no end in sight. And we are so trained now on being governed by executive orders that we cheer for them. We hope for them. We pray for them. If only the Governor would issue such and such executive order everything would be okay. But it is not ok.
The Governor and his people have worked overtime trying to downplay the provisions laid out in Executive Order 83 which was signed on August 6th. Other conservatives have even tried to dismiss the conspiracy theories that have gone about due to the extreme nature of the executive order.
However, in one fell swoop, the Governor signed a document that would activate the National Guard for purposes of a health disaster and in some specific ways answer to the Commissioner of Health, involuntarily commit individuals over the phone for mental illness, remove barriers to the construction of isolation facilities, and remove most all inspections required for healthcare facilities amongst other wonderful provisions that many Tennesseans did not appreciate. I remind you, this is one executive order.
And the point that is being missed by many is that people are most concerned about the language in the executive order being abused. Perhaps the intent of the words used in the executive order itself could be explained away as necessary for the good of our state (and I find that impossible to imagine). But we cannot deny the fact there are those who would abuse these provisions to stretch the boundaries of authority and perpetrate acts on the people of this state that are wholly outside of the intentions of the executive order itself. This is what elected leaders have been doing across the country since last March and we have watched it continue to unfold right before our eyes. So, why are we laying the groundwork for tyranny here in Tennessee?
And now, the people cheer for Executive Order 84. The Governor has freed the children! Or has he?
We have called and are still calling for the convening of a special session of the General Assembly to address the authority of schools to make these overarching healthcare decisions over a student body, vaccine requirements by businesses and employers, and the emergency powers statute. This executive order is nothing more than an attempt to appease the masses in hopes to avoid actually doing the work necessary to preserve liberty here in our state. The Governor would love nothing more than to continue leading by executive fiat.
Please notice what this executive order does!
It actually puts in writing for the first time that schools DO in fact have the authority to forcibly mask your children. You understand that, right? The Governor is giving schools an authority they do not currently possess and he is doing so by an unlawful authority under an unconstitutional emergency declaration and then putting the burden on parents to then opt-out. Is this truly acceptable?
By the way, this order expires on October 5th and is made under the auspices of a declared emergency. This means that for parents to continue having the ability to opt-out of mask requirements, the executive order must be renewed and the emergency must continue. Otherwise, we are back to square one. Are you still excited?
And here’s the kicker. Now that the Governor has singlehandedly solved all of your problems, he has stated that he will not be calling for a special session, meaning, none of the other very important issues will be addressed by our legislature.
And the General Assembly erupts in applause!
Stop negotiating your rights through executive orders!

The quote that really takes the cake is, “Thank you, @GovBillLee, for taking a stand and giving parents the authority to make health decisions for their children.”
When we accept and use language like this, we should just acknowledge that we have already lost everything we have fought so hard to preserve. This Governor and this governing body “gives” you nothing in terms of your parental rights. They are in the business of securing what you already have which was given by God Almighty. And their role is to ensure that those rights are never infringed upon in this state by any party or any governing body.
And already, less than 12 hours after the executive order was released to the public, Metro Nashville Public Schools has communicated that masks will still be required in their schools and they will not be honoring the Governor’s executive order. They are making him look like a fool.
