I love freedom. Liberty is a fountain that springs from the heart of God and is sewn into the desires of all creation to be sought after and fought for even at great cost. It should never be taken for granted. And it should always be celebrated.
But may I suggest that Juneteenth is just another cog in the media machine that seeks to pull up America by the roots.
We are in the midst of a battle for the soul of a nation with a pseudo-administration at the helm in the White House that has fast-tracked every policy and executive order that serves to further divide this nation and undermine every ideal that binds us together as a people. And in America, there is no better tool to use than race. It harkens back to a dirty past of enslavement and is an easy target to strike down any hope that we have as a people to come together and serve as a beacon for freedom to a world so desperate for hope.
As usual, most people do not bother to look past the headlines into the finer details of what is actually happening around them. And while all of the guilty white folk, oppressors, and people of privilege are caught up in celebrating what on the surface seems to be good, freedom, there is a cunning enemy that is succeeding in redefining the very essence of what we are all celebrating. And the enemy is not defined by race.
Did anyone even look to see the name of the bill that made Juneteenth a new federal holiday? It is named the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act. Does that sound like a holiday on which we simply celebrate the end of slavery? Or does that sound like a holiday that literally redefines how and when we became a nation in the first place? Anyone ever hear of the 1619 Project or a little thing called critical race theory? These are not mutually exclusive.
Just look around at the mainstream sentiment of those who are celebrating this new national holiday. Singer, Macy Gray is now calling for a new American flag. HuffPost put out an article titled, “The Hypocrisy of Honoring Juneteenth While Condemning Critical Race Theory” where Congressional Black Caucus Chair Joyce Beatty (D-Ohio) said making Juneteenth a federal holiday is “important and long overdue” but is not the end of the fight to rectify this country’s racist past. Take her at her word. This is just the beginning.
June 19th is undoubtedly a significant day in Texas history and has in fact been celebrated for some time throughout the state being made an official state holiday in 1980. As Timothy Barton points out in The Epoch Times,
“However, we ought to realize that Juneteenth was not the end of slavery either in the United States or continental America. Indeed, slavery persisted in the states until the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment on Dec. 6, 1865. Despite the celebrations and jubilations of African Americans that first Juneteenth holiday, the road ahead was still filled with difficulties and hardships in the fight for equal and full protection of every American’s God-given liberty.”
In other words, Juneteenth was no independence day.
It needs to be considered what we stand to lose as we continue to let these progressive ideologies sweep through modern society unchecked. Quite possibly, without the real Independence Day on July 4, 1776, slavery may still exist in America today and taken on new and even more sinister forms as time moved on. America was never perfect, and it is not perfect today. But I am beyond convinced that without the foresight of our Founders to put in writing what is undoubtedly the best system of government devised by man to preserve and protect individual liberty, that no mechanism of rule could have ever afforded us the ability to right the wrong of slavery.
Mark my words. Moving forward, Juneteenth will not be a celebration of freedom. But it will be a constant reminder of sin and transgression and a platform that will be used to continue to divide and reconstruct a new truth in the American psyche that can no longer be held self-evident.
The significance of the new Woke Independence Day cannot be understated
