This bill ensures that government buildings, including public schools, display only official and unifying flags, preventing the promotion of divisive or ideological agendas. The bill restricts the display of flags in government offices, courthouses, roadways, and public schools to those that represent the United States, the State of Tennessee, military branches, official political subdivisions, and educational institutions.
This legislation is an important step in protecting public institutions from becoming platforms for political or ideological messaging, such as the promotion of the LGBT agenda or other activist causes. By maintaining a neutral and nonpartisan public space, this bill upholds Tennessee values and ensures that government property is used for its intended purpose—serving all citizens, not advancing specific social or political movements.
The bill also allows citizens and parents to take legal action if schools or government agencies violate these provisions, ensuring accountability and enforcement. By passing this measure, Tennessee reinforces its commitment to unity and prevents taxpayer-funded institutions from being used to promote political ideologies that do not represent the entire community.
