The Constitution was made for a wholly moral people. It does not work otherwise. John Adams stated, “It is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue.” (1776)
Several years later, he stated, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. . . Our constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” (1798)
Morality is rooted in faith, and here in America, our founders established a country that would need to choose a faith that taught morality and virtue.
Unfortunately, across Tennessee, two counter ideologies are growing who publicly declare their desire to dismantle our valued law of the land. Islam and Democratic Socialism, who certainly do not teach morality, are fully prepared to take on the long game.
These two evils we face in America today are directly tied to churches in America being more fearful of their donors than the Truth. They have peddled the doctrine of tolerance rather than teaching their parishioners to apply the Word of God to culture.
And now, as churches have been quiet, Islam has infiltrated our country by using our own protections against us.
Unfortunately, many Muslims have chosen not to assimilate to American culture. Take two steps off an airplane into the airports in Detroit or Minneapolis and you will have to remind yourself that you’re still in America.
Our country has always welcomed immigrants with the expectation that they would land in America and assimilate to our culture and ways of life. They would operate under our laws and respect our values. Instead, we have bent our ways to accommodate their culture, and now, it may be too late to reverse course in cities like Dearborn and Hamtramck, Michigan.
On a clip that went viral this week, Pastor Lorenzo Sewell spoke at a Dearborn city council meeting, where he asked each council member “Will you denounce Sharia Law?” Not a single council member spoke up to protect American values.
In Dearborn, city officials must take the following oath:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of this state and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of __________ according to the best of my ability.”
Not a single elected official, who gave their oath to serve our country, said they would denounce a set of laws that run counter to our own.
Now let’s look at the Democratic Socialists of America. On their Middle Tennessee organization website, it states…
“We’re the Middle Tennessee chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the country with over 120,000 dues paying members. We fight for more democracy — in our politics, workplaces, schools, and communities. Our members are building and supporting progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly socialist presence in U.S. communities and politics through activism, elections, labor & tenant unions, political education, and community organization.”
Within the Middle Tennessee DSA group, they have four operating working groups: QUILT (Queers United in Liberating Tennessee), Mutual Aid Working Group, Immigrant Rights Working Group, and the Legislative and Electoral Working Group.
In this last primary election, Ashley Benkarski, a school board candidate in Rutherford County, lost her Democratic primary by only 40 votes. She was endorsed by the Middle Tennessee Democratic Socialists of America. In the social media posts following the election, the DSA group stated,
“Despite the hundreds of hours of work by 60+ volunteers, including DSA members from Murfreesboro, Nashville, and Chattanooga, Ashley unfortunately came up 40 votes short against their opponent…
Ashley’s team … set out to knock as many doors in District 21 as possible to reach as many D21 residents as they could, whether they were democrats, republicans, independents or non-voters…
Their fundraising was solid, outraising every other candidate in District 21 from either party…
Only an organized working class movement will be able to win back our city, our county, our state, and our country from the hands of the rich and powerful that continue to prioritize unsustainable growth at all costs, no matter the damage or displacement inflicted on regular families like yours or Ashley’s.”
Here’s the problem. This messaging, this organizing, this proactive campaign is attractive to young adults who cannot afford to buy a home. They see unsustainable growth in their local counties. They see a federal party who won’t take the initiative to protect our elections.
But neither Islam nor the Democratic Socialists of America are based in morality or virtue. Neither Islam nor the Democratic Socialists of America, if allowed to thrive, will protect our Constitution. They both support their own set of laws and they both are working to make sure we know that as they continue to grow, they will work to undo all of our American values and principles.
The question comes down to this, will our Constitution stand against the anti-American ideologies we face today? Will it survive the next few years as both doctrines are slowly gaining ground in Tennessee? It will if we understand our role and responsibility civically. We the people must work, we must educate ourselves on our “law of the land”, we must know it so well that we’re able to identify immediately when it’s being attacked.
Remember, it’s a “Republic, if YOU can keep it.”
